With back to back television successes and being one of the most followed actresses in Pakistan, it was no surprise for this alluring 22 year old actress to be approached by B-Town. From being a VJ to being nothing short of an absolute diva – Mawra Hocane has truly come a long way from where she had begun. On her way to the Karachi premiere of her debut film, Sanam Teri Kasam, the actress chats with me on the film, it’s response and what’s next!

PakiUM: First of all, you were offered several movies across the border with superstars working opposite you. Why did you choose a film with all debutantes?

Mawra Hocane: Who knew! Harsh turned down RamLeela and ended up debuting with Sanam Teri Kasam as well. I guess it was all meant to be. The reason why I turned down a lot of films was that I wasn’t offered any meaty role. I wouldn’t do a film across the border just to be an eye candy and Sanam Teri Kasam’s Saru (her character) gave me a margin to perform!

PakiUM: How was your experience with the film and what sort of character did you play?

Mawra Hocane: My experience was full of love. I couldn’t have asked for a better debut. I play the role of a South Indian girl, who is very cultural and family oriented, but at the same time, shes a dreamer. You’ve seen some of that dreamer part in Kheech Meri Photo and will see more in the movie. Overall it’s about how she fulfills her dreams and Harsh becomes part of them. It’s a typical love story of a girl and guy falling in love, but with a very classic approach to it. It’s a tragic love story, I believe in the old era of romance.

PakiUM: So what expectations shall we keep?

Mawra Hocane: Sanam Teri Kasam is a full package. It’s a dose of incredible love and wonderful music. It’s a very fun film overall!

PakiUM: Now that the film is released, what is your current lineup of projects?

Mawra Hocane: I have a lot of projects in the pipeline on both sides of the border. I’m very grateful that I’m being offered great roles. I will only take up the project if the plot touches my heart. And it’s all about the script.

PakiUM: What would be your message to all the readers on the ending note?

Mawra Hocane: I just want to thank everybody for such brilliant feedback. No girl from Pakistan has got so much love as much as I have, so I’m very grateful. Thank you so much!
